The Brush and the Sword: Ways of Writing and Fighting in Medieval Japan

September 26 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Thomas Conlan, professor of East Asian studies at Princeton University, presents a lecture open to the public at Southwestern University:

Who were the warriors of Japan? How did they fight? What were their ideals? And why were nearly all of them, both men and women, literate? Professor Conlan will introduce their ways of living and fighting, and provide a new view of Japan’s warriors that differs from how they have been remembered.  The location on campus will be announced shortly.
